    MELBOURNE TO CALOUNDRA

Welcome to our holiday to the beautiful Sunshine Coast. With chauffeured pickup from home, we travel to Melbourne Airport.  Here we’ll be greeted by an O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours representative who will assist us with check in and see us onto the plane for our direct flight to the Sunshine Coast. Arriving at Maroochydore Airport, we will be welcomed by our coach crew who will assist us with our luggage, before we board the coach for a relaxing drive to Caloundra. On arrival at the Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort, we will be welcomed and shown to our accommodation. Tonight there will be a welcome dinner in the restaurant.

  • DAY 2: SATURDAY 13TH JULY, 2024

    EXPLORING CALOUNDRA AND MOOLOOLABA

After breakfast we take a scenic drive to acquaint ourselves with the area. Caloundra sits on the northern end of the Pumicestone Passage or Channel—the waters which separate the mainland from Bribie Island.  Surrounded by beaches, Caloundra is a popular spot for families, water sports and holiday makers. Further north on the Sunshine Coast is Mooloolaba, which sits on a spit of land between the ocean and the Mooloolah River. Here we visit Sea Life Sunshine Coast Aquarium, a marine mammal park, oceanarium and wildlife sanctuary. With sharks, rays, seals, otters and many more marine animals, there is much to see and do here at Queensland’s largest oceanarium and aquarium. Sea Life has regular shows and demonstrations that allow us to see and understand so much about the ocean and its creatures. We have plenty of time to explore the centre and enjoy lunch at the Octopus Café. This afternoon there will be some free time to look at the shops, walk on the beach or return to our accommodation to relax and freshen up before dinner.

OVERNIGHT:  Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort, CALOUNDRA

  • DAY 3: SUNDAY 14TH JULY, 2024

    THE BLACKALL RANGE

We have a fabulous day in store today as we travel up to The Blackall Range. Our first stop for the day is a guided tour of the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve on the southern edge of the Blackall Range, overlooking the unique formations of the spectacular Glasshouse Mountains, followed by lunch in the Mountain View Café - don’t forget to bring the camera! From here we make our way north along the range taking in the beautiful vistas along the way to Montville. Step back in time and enjoy the tranquillity of village life in a streetscape unique to any other tourist centre in Australia. We will have free time here to browse the many arts and crafts shops – our coach will drop us at the top of the village and we can walk downhill! At the northern end of the Range, we stop at Dulong Lookout for the last of the breathtaking views out to the coastline. After a great day’s sightseeing we return to the resort.

OVERNIGHT: Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort, CALOUNDRA

  • DAY 4: MONDAY 15TH JULY, 2024

    AUSTRALIA ZOO

No holiday to this area would be complete without a visit to the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo. Millions of dollars have been invested in the park so it’s an ever changing and growing attraction. We’ll arrive early enough to take a stroll - see the cheeky otters and their cute antics at their 10 o’clock feeding, learn about the Galapagos Land Tortoises as they munch through their breakfast, hand feed the elephants before taking our seats in the “Crocoseum”. Are you ready for some serious wildlife action? The Zoo’s keepers and their amazing animals will take us on a slithering, swooping, jaw-snapping adventure of epic proportions! There are many other scheduled demonstrations during the day and even the chance to be photographed with a giant python. A people mover is available to access the various parts of the park. After a great day here, we’ll drive back to the resort for some free time before dinner.

Lunch at own expense and arrangement

OVERNIGHT:  Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort, CALOUNDRA

  • DAY 5: TUESDAY 16TH JULY, 2024

    EXPLORING NOOSA

We have a very relaxing day today, starting with a leisurely breakfast. Late morning, we join Noosa River & Canal Cruises for a luncheon cruise. Over lunch, we’ll enjoy beautiful views of the river, its wildlife and nature reserves, as well as the magnificent waterfront homes along the Noosa canals. After our cruise, we have time this afternoon to explore Noosa before returning to Caloundra.

OVERNIGHT: Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort, CALOUNDRA

  • DAY 6: WEDNESDAY 17TH JULY, 2024

EUMUNDI MARKETS AND THE GINGER FACTORY

We’re lucky enough to be here on a Wednesday so, after breakfast, we’ll head off to the famous Eumundi Markets. The twice weekly street markets held in the small village of Eumundi are as popular with the locals as they are with visitors to the Sunshine Coast. 300 stalls of various handcrafts and produce are controlled by a strict market policy – you can sell your goods if you “can make it, bake it, sew it or grow it”. As a result, a very high quality of original product is on offer. We will spend the morning at the markets and have some free time to explore the Eumundi village before making our way to the little village of Yandina – home to the world’s largest Ginger Factory! We have arranged a guided tour here. We’ll learn how ginger is grown, harvested and processed and then take the tour through lush subtropical gardens on the beloved historic train, Moreton. Now about 120 years old, Moreton was a sugar cane train working at the Moreton Sugar Mill in Nambour, and now spends his days taking visitors through the Ginger Factory grounds. We finish our tour with delicious tastings. Packed full of nutrients, ginger purportedly relieves morning and motion sickness. We then make our way back to Caloundra.

OVERNIGHT:  Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort, CALOUNDRA
