ITINERARY

DAY 1:      (Inflight Meals and D)
MELBOURNE TO SINGAPORE

Welcome to our wonderful Singapore tour! After we are collected by our chauffeurs we are transferred to Tullamarine International Airport where we meet our fellow passengers, ready to board our flight directly to Singapore. The flight takes 7 hours and 50 minutes departing mid morning and has us arriving in Singapore in the afternoon.  We are welcomed by our local guide and coach who will transfer us to our accommodation at the Mandarin Orchard, right in the heart of the city. This is the perfect place to unwind and rest from our flight, so no further arrangements have been made today except to meet in the hotel’s Triple Three Restaurant for a buffet dinner this evening. This will be our base for the duration of our time in Singapore, so no need to repack again until we depart for home.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 2:      (BLD)
GETTING TO KNOW SINGAPORE

After a wonderful breakfast, being fully refreshed from our flight yesterday we begin our exploration of Singapore. We begin our day with a comfortable introduction to Singapore’s colourful heritage visiting Kampong Glam, passing little India and Chinatown this morning. Our guide gives us commentary on the history and development at the former Malaya Command Headquarters, today this is known as the Legends Hotel on Fort Canning Hill, where we also have lunch. The rest of the afternoon is free. We are returned to our hotel which is surrounded by beautiful shopping, so perhaps you may like to do some shopping or you may just want to relax and have a rest at our accommodation as we are heading out for dinner this evening. We have a guided tour of the Marina Bay area on one of the world’s largest Observation Wheels, The Singapore Flyer, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 3:      (B and HT)
BATTLEFIELDS

Today we have a guided tour with a specialised military heritage guide covering the invasion sites of Lim Chu Kang, Sarimbun beach landings and Kranji Reservoir Park. A memorable event today will be a visit to Kranji War Cemetery, where a simple remembrance ceremony has been arranged.  Our morning will provide invaluable insight to the Japanese Invasion, British preparations and the Australian involvement.  We spend some time at the Battlebox which is ranked the best museum in Singapore.  The day is full of highlights and our High Tea in the Tiffin Room at the Raffles Hotel is certainly one of these. After our high tea, we have chosen to leave dinner at our own expense this evening as we may only need something light.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 4:      (BLD)
JURONG BIRD PARK AND BUM BOAT

Our morning will be spent at Asia’s largest bird park. At Jurong Bird Park we hop on-board the guided trams or take a leisurely stroll around the Park and explore the lush jungles.  After lunch we meet our coach at a designated time this afternoon and return to our hotel. We have a couple of hours to rest from the day, before our next excursion. This evening we cruise along the Singapore River on a traditional Bum Boat ride. Feast your eyes on glitzy Clarke Quay and take photo opportunities of the Merlion and the iconic Marina Bay Sands. We enjoy dinner this evening at No Signboard Seafood Restaurant on the Esplanade.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 5:      (BD)
SENTOSA ISLAND TOUR

Haw Par Villa is our first stop this morning. Here we uncover a dizzying array of sculptures and dioramas. The complex is a treasure trove of Asian culture, history, philosophy and religion. Continuing our touring to Sentosa Island where the trip to get there will be an adventure itself as we take the Cable Car over the island giving us a bird’s eye view of what we have in store for the day. Upon arrival onto the island our first visit is to S.E.A. Aquarium, the world’s largest aquarium and Marine Life Park.  After a morning of wonderment viewing a multitude of underwater creatures we will be hungry. Lunch has been left free for us to choose from the many outlets available.  This afternoon is at a more relaxed pace. At Resorts World we could partake in a treatment at the Spa and Wellness Centre or Spa Botanica (at own expense) for complete indulgence, or simply purchase a coffee or drink to while away the afternoon watching all the action taking place around us. We arrive back to our accommodation relaxed before dinner at the hotel.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 6:     (BLD)
BOTANICAL GARDEN CITY TOUR

We board our coach and travel to the National Orchid Garden at the Singapore Botanical Gardens - an absolutely beautiful way to spend the morning. Our lunch venue is in the gardens at Halia Restaurant, a truly wonderful experience. This afternoon has been left free for us to explore more of this fascinating city or relax at our accommodation. Tonight we stay at the hotel to enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of its finest restaurants.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 7:      (BLD)
THE SINGAPORE STORY

This morning we learn to understand and appreciate the amazing story of the “Little Red Dot” and how Singapore overcomes her severe constraints and her journey to becoming a developed nation at the Chinatown Heritage Centre. We learn about urban planning, housing, water resource management amongst other things. Our tour includes visits to Singapore City Gallery, the Pinnacle@Duxton and the Marina Barrage. Our interesting touring continues with a Chinese Tea Appreciation workshop with a Dim Sum lunch provided during the ceremony. There will be some down time this afternoon for relaxation or shopping. We are venturing out again this evening on a night safari of the Singapore Zoo. Our guided tram ride takes us across seven geographical zones of the world, from the rugged Himalayan foothills to the swampy banks of the Asian riverine forest. Our guide shares fascinating facts and tales about the animals and habitats along the journey. On completion of the tram ride we are lead along a walking trail where we view the animals at close quarters. We will be entertained during the Creatures of the Night show. During the evening we have dinner at the Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant in the park.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 8:      (BD)
CULTURAL EXPLORATIONS

Our coach meets us this morning for our guided tour of Peranakan Museum in the Katong district tucked away in the eastern corner of Singapore. We view popiah rolling, beading and dumpling demonstrations. We also discover Peranakan culture as we stroll past heritage shophouses, quaint stores and eateries. Peranakans are the descendants of Chinese or Indian immigrants who married indigenous people from the Malay Archipelago in the 15th century. Their legacy is best seen in Joo Chiat. This is one of the country’s best foodie destinations so is the perfect place to find a lunch venue that whets our appetites (lunch at passengers own expense). This evening will be a definite highlight as we make our way to Gardens by the Bay located at the edge of Marina Reservoir. Spanning a huge area, this award winning horticultural attraction houses over 250,000 rare plants with two unique conservatories being the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. The area we cover tonight is large so we take the shuttle service offered to get from one spot to another. We will be amazed by the Supertrees which are vertical gardens that combine a multitude of functions and work as environmental engines for the gardens. Our farewell dinner this evening is at Indochine which offers us amazing views of the Singapore skyline atop the Supertrees. What a fantastic way to end a memorable holiday in this unique destination.

OVERNIGHT:  Mandarin Orchard, SINGAPORE

DAY 9:      (B and Inflight Meals)
SINGAPORE TO MELBOURNE

We farewell the friendly staff at our accommodation who have looked after us so well.  Our coach collects us in time to board our flight this morning taking us home to Melbourne. We arrive at Tullamarine airport in the evening where our chauffeurs will meet us for our final transfers to our front doors.
