Welcome to our tour to celebrate Easter at the Beechworth Golden Horseshoes. With

chauffeured pickup from home, we are transferred to meet our O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours coach and crew. We stop enroute for our morning break before travelling to Seymour, known in history for its gold rush days, military presents and railway service. While we are in for a truly special experience at the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre, home to an impressive collection of historic rollingstock spanning more than a century, including royal and vice-regal

carriages. We start with a wonderful site tour and walk though their lovely old carriages

followed by a special lunch aboard the 1937 Spirit of Progress dining car. Although stationary we can still appreciate the old worldly charm. Thanking our hosts we then head to Wangaratta where we settle in for the next four nights.

We make our way down one of the most popular touring drives in Australia, The Great Alpine Road. Winding through stunning alpine scenery and past towering mountains, we arrive in the little township of Eurobin to visit Red Stag Deer Farm, a stunning farm with alpine views in all directions. The unique property offers the opportunity to feed, touch and learn about deer, emus and ostriches. We enjoy a famous Devonshire tea here before continuing to the Tawonga Gap Lookout, offering a breathtaking vantagepoint to view the pretty town of Mount Beauty in all its splendour. Casting our eyes across the Kiewa Valley, we are treated to the majestic presence of Mount Bogong, soaring to a height beyond that of Mt Buffalo. In Bright, a picturesque Alpine town we enjoy lunch, before paying a visit to the nearby Nightingale Bros – Alpine Apples. The Nightingale family has been growing apples here since 1954 and now produces fresh and delicious apples along with a variety of nuts. THE GOLDEN HORSESHOES FESTIVAL

This morning we take the short drive across to historic Beechworth to enjoy the main day of

their annual Golden Horseshoes Festival which is Beechworth’s most vibrant and fun filled annual event. It celebrates the legend of Daniel Cameron who in 1855 memorably led a

parade through the streets of Beechworth on a horse shod with shoes of real gold. Each

Easter Saturday, the old legend is re-enacted with the traditional shoeing a horse with golden shoes (yes, real gold) and a Grand Parade. After a fabulous day, we return to Wangaratta.
